It might not have cracked the elite yet, but Kamehameha’s water polo team is still a pretty good bet to win a game at states.

Senior Sydney Plunkett netted seven goals to extended her high school career one more day and junior Acacia Trusdell added five as the Warriors outlasted Roosevelt 14-10 on Thursday in consolation play at the Hawaii High School Athletic Association tournament in Honolulu.

Junior Chloe Martins-Keliihoomalu and sophomore Halia Nahale-a added goals for the BIIF champions (13-1), who will finish their season against Maui Interscholastic League champ Baldwin (9-1) at 3:30 p.m. today in the fifth-place match. The Bears beat BIIF runner-up Hawaii Prep 10-5 in another consolation match.

Roosevelt (10-7), the Oahu Interscholastic Association’s No. 5 seed, was led by Hannah Yasuda’s five goals. Rachel Kamai netted a hat trick and Kauionalani Keola scored twice.

In Wednesday’s quarterfinals, Iolani downed Kamehameha 10-2. But the Warriors now have won at least one match at states for at least the past seven years.

Baldwin 10, Hawaii Prep 5: Alea Weber scored five times as the Bears ended the Ka Makani’s season.

Senior Bhillie Luciani and junior Hannah Twigg-Smith each scored twice for HPA (9-6), and senior Jellian Cuatero added a goal.

Baldwin also got two scores apiece from Alyssa Waki and Jazmine Harmon, while Yvonne Ngalu chipped in with a goal.
